Anywhere in the bathroom is fine with me. Just don’t leave them: on the carpet in the bedroom, on the bed, on the chairs, on the dressers, hanging over the sprinkler system, draped over the curtain rods.
When I travel, I throw all the towels in the tub/shower. They’re corralled so no one slips or trips over them.

All i need from my guests is to care for the safety of others and follow some basic courtesies. Having a few hanging hooks behind the bathroom door actually helps in such instances.
